Borough Council Meetings
Ellwood City Borough council meets monthly.
Council members hold their agenda-setting meeting at 6 :00 p.m. the second
Monday of each month in council chambers, located on the first floor of the
borough municipal building on Lawrence Avenue. Council holds its regular
meeting at 6 :00 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the same
location. All meetings are open to the public. More information can be found

Curbside Clean-Up
A clean-up program has been designed for the use of residents of the Borough of Ellwood City to aid in the disposal of general trash, small furniture, small appliances, lumber, and other household items. Items are NOT to be placed at the curb until the day before the schedule pick-up. There is a limit per household equal to a full pick-up truck. Loose or unacceptable items will be left at the curb and there will be NO return trips. Nothing that should be recycled will be picked up!
Unacceptable items include sectional couches, sleeper sofas, roll away beds, tires, rims or vehicle parts, builder materials, dirt, bricks, stones, refridgerators, air conditioner units, trash cans, carpets not cut, bundled and tied in 4-foot lengths, infection or hazardous materials, fluorescents, electronics, and CFL lights.

Transportation
State Route-65, Route-488, Route-288 weave
throughout portions of the Borough of Ellwood City allowing for easy access, north, south,
east, and west to neighboring communities and highways. State Route-351
(Lawrence Avenue) leads travelers through the heart of downtown Ellwood City,
including passed the municipal building and borough offices. Route-351 West
leads commuters approximately six miles to State Route-60 and the
Pennsylvania Turnpike. (view road map)
Ellwood City is also a community touched by the
New Castle Transit Authority, a public transportation system offered six
days a week, with bus routes throughout Lawrence County and the streets of
Ellwood City. Daily weekday service is offered to and from Pittsburgh.

Public Library
Ellwood City Area Public Library offers over
45,000 items, ranging from large-print books, to magazines, to audio and
videotapes and offers all citizens the right to obtain information and
knowledge in order to participate in the democratic process.
The library
offers preschool story telling hours on the weekends and is a main
coordinator of the Story Telling Festival held annually in Ewing Park.
The library is open Monday through Thursday -- 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. ;
Friday -- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ; Saturday -- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ellwood City Hospital
The Ellwood City Hospital has
been a part of the Ellwood City community since 1913 when a 10-bed
hospital operated by one doctor opened in a private home on Crescent
Avenue.
Today, our Hospital has progressed to a modern complex with a newly
expanded emergency room, a 46-bed medical surgical unit, a 6-bed
intensive coronary care unit, an 8-bed maternity unit, a 10-bed
geriatric psychiatry unit, and a 25-bed skilled nursing unit – as well
as a variety of diagnostic and surgical services.
The hospitals general visiting hours for those over the age of 14 are
from Noon to 8:30 p.m., ICCU Visitation is 10 minutes of each hour for
immediate family members only, and maternity visitation is from 1 to
8:30 p.m.

Local Shopping
Ellwood City offers an large assortment of
shopping facilities including, grocery stores, tee shirt design shops, comic
book stores, and jewelry stores. Ellwood City's main street, Lawrence
Avenue, is scattered with store fronts offering just about everything from
the daily Ellwood City Ledger new automobiles.
